Business Idea of the Year at the Business Council in Herning and Ikast-Brande Entrepreneur Event

In November 2019, Pesitho was awarded the Business Idea of the Year from the Business Council in Herning and Ikast-Brande Entrepreneur Event, in Herning, Denmark. Pesitho was presented with 10,000kr towards our work in providing an off-grid solar cookstove to the worlds most marginalized and vulnerable.

In 2019 Pesitho was awarded the MECS Challenge Fund for Technology Research Innovation for International Development (MECS-TRIID) from Loughborough University.

Pesitho worked with Aarhus University in collecting data on the environmental and health impacts of using the ECOCA solar stove for cooking compared to traditional biomass stoves.

The research took place at the Bidbidi Refugee Settlement in Uganda with recipient families of the pilot ECOCA stoves and families who solely use solid biomass for everyday cooking.

With success at the WFP Bootcamp in 2019, a pilot study was initiated in Burundi with the aim of giving participants the opportunity to replace more than 75% of their current use of charcoal with the ECOCA. Starting in late 2019, 7 ECOCA cookstoves were distributed to 7 families as a trial. Pesitho was able to collect feedback and upgraded its cookstoves as per users’ preferences, providing the 7 families with a new model in early 2020.
